This is where my teaching journey begins! (Well, actually back in 2010 in Poland)
Let me guide you through my teaching experiences in Italy, Kyrgyzstan and Spain.
Let me guide you through my teaching experiences in Italy, Kyrgyzstan and Spain.
Teaching English in ITALY
From September 2013 to June 2014 I took part in Comenius assistantship programme in Palermo, Italy. I worked as teachers' assistant during English lessons cooperating with 7 English teachers. I worked with 3rd- and 4th-grade children (8-9 years old) for 16 hours a week, one hour weekly in every 3rd and 4th grade. The purpose of my work was to improve the language skills of pupils at the host school, to increase their level of motivation to learn English. Moreover, I wanted to raise pupils’ cultural awareness of Poland and to represent my country on a European dimension, as well as to help pupils to break down prejudices. I promoted the use and importance of foreign languages and to help school expand pupils’ knowledge of the European Union. I planned some lessons for special ocassions. The first one was The European Day of Languages (26th September) when I talked to children about the importance of learning foreign languages. For Christmas together with teachers we taught children Christmas songs such as: “Away in a manger”, “Silent night”, “Jingle bells”, “I wanna wish you a merry Christmas”, “Happy days”. Children presented them in front of the parents. For Easter I talked about Easter traditions, customs and food in Poland. It was very important to me to teach Polish culture. For the occassion of the Open Day I prepared the Comenius corner with posters and brochures about Poland. Moreover, my mentor teacher and me prepared a demonstration English lesson for kindergarten children. I was also actively involved in the school life. I participated in the school trip of the 5th grade classes to Piazza Armerina (Villa Romana del Casale). It was a great experience! What did I learn? I learned to feel more confident in the classroom and I improved my teaching skills. I learned how to maintain the discipline in the classroom. I learned how to work with children with difficulties. I could correct and asses tests. I got many pieces of advice from experienced teachers. I had a possibility to teach and interact with children. I prepared my own teaching materials. I improved my Italian. I enhanced my knowledge of Italian education system. I got children acquainted with Polish culture (Christmas and Easter traditions, Polish cousine, Warsaw, a song in Polish). |
Teaching English in KYRGYZSTAN
In August 2016 I participated in Workaway programme as a volunteer teacher in a rural area of Kyrgyzstan, in Central Asia.
I worked in a language school BE SMART in Karakol and taught all age groups - children, teenagers and young adults. Moreover, I lived with a Kyrgyz family, which was a truly enriching and unique experience. I helped to promote the school in the local area as well as taught English conversation classes and tried to contribute positively to create a positive attitude towards studying English. Students in Central Asia are aware that learning foreign languages opens many doors for them and gives them an opportunity to work abroad and improve their and their families' living conditions, which are very poor in this country. This experience changed me and opened my eyes to many issues and problems. I felt that my little contribution here can be a change in someone's life and I can really make a difference. |

Toybox Montessori English-speaking kindergarten
From October 2016 until January 2017 I worked in English-speaking kindergarten Toybox in Andalusia, in Monachil, a small town near Granada, just near Sierra Nevada mountains.
I was an assistant in a class of 3-4-5 year-olds and as the only language spoken in the preschool was English, children were truly immersed in the language since a very young age. Moreover, I taught afternoon speaking classes - Chatterbox for primary students.
The kindergarten follows Montessori approach, children are very autonomous and encouraged to make their own choices as far as learning is concerned starting from a very young age.

Linguistic immersion summer camps Pueblo Inglés
(central Spain, Avila)
In July 2017 I worked in the summer camps organized by Diverbo that implemented Spanish Ministery of Education linguistic immersion programme. Spanish and English-speaking teenagers participated in daily activities in English and had a unique opportunity to have both culural and language exchange. My role as a counselor was to organize and monitor daily group activities and to support and encourage Spanish teens to speak English only.
Teaching English in western Spain
(Badajoz)
I have been working in a language academy in Badajoz for one year and a half. What I really appreciate about this position is a great variety of classes and age groups, more precisely, I work with very young learners, teenagers, adults (I prepare them for Cambridge certificate exams) as well as Spanish military officers who are about to deploy on missions abroad (I prepare them for NATO exams - Level 2 and 3).
